Alphonce Simbu 

He won a silver medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in the men's marathon event. In June 2021, he qualified to represent Tanzania at the 2020 Summer Olympics where he secured 7th place with a time of 2:11:35.[7]

In 2019, he competed in the men's marathon at the 2019 World Athletics Championships held in Doha, Qatar.[6] He finished in 16th place.[6]

He started 2017 on a high note, winning January’s Mumbai Marathon and earning an invitation to April’s Virgin Money London Marathon, where he finished with a strong burst to place fifth in a personal-best time of 2:09:10. A few months later at the IAAF World Championships Marathon, he battled his way to third place to claim just the second medal for Tanzania in the history of the championships.

By 2015, Simbu was upping his distance, making his marathon debut that year in the Gold Coast Marathon, where he finished sixth in 2:12:01 to earn a spot at the IAAF World Championships where he took 12th in 2:16:58. That performance qualified him for the Rio 2016 Olympics, where he moved through the field over the closing miles to finish fifth. He marched as Tanzania’s flag bearer during the closing ceremony.

Alphonce Simbu is  the first New York City Marathon winner from Tanzania since Juma Ikangaa won the race in 1989. Over the last three years, Simbu has recorded top-five finishes at the Olympic, IAAF World Championships, and London marathons.

As a teenager, Simbu was better known as a 1500- and 5000-meter runner, winning a national title over the latter distance in 2011, which was where he first came under the watch of national team coach Francis John. Training back then consisted of two runs per day every day except for Sunday, when he would rest to attend church, where for many years he was a gospel singer in the choir.

With an HPI of 39.96, Filbert Bayi is the most famous Tanzanian Athlete.  His biography has been translated into 20 different languages on wikipedia.

Filbert Bayi Sanka (born June 23, 1953) is a Tanzanian former middle-distance runner who competed throughout the 1970s. He set the world records for 1500 metres in 1974 and the mile in 1975. His world record in the 1500 m was also the Commonwealth Games record until 2022.

Suleiman Nyambui

With an HPI of 35.35, Suleiman Nyambui is the 2nd most famous Tanzanian Athlete.  His biography has been translated into 16 different languages.

Suleiman Nyambui (born February 13, 1953) is a former track athlete from Tanzania who specialized in various long-distance disciplines. Nyambui won the bronze medal at the 1978 All-Africa Games, the silver medal in 5000 metres at the 1980 Summer Olympics, and finished first at three consecutive marathons between 1987 and 1988. He holds multiple indoor national records of Tanzania in athletics.
